Working Mom Life

I've talked before here on the blog about the fact that I am a working mom. I've been so lucky to be able to have gone to part-time status since Jack was born (did that when he was eight months old). It makes my life A LOT easier than when I was working full-time, but there are still many complications I've encountered since then. The biggest being childcare. It's tough to find a good fit for your child with care providers.

Right now we have a great situation set up with a sitter, but it makes it tough if that person goes out of town and we can't find back up childcare in time. It's days like these when Jack gets to come to work with Mommy and Daddy! He likes it, but it's crazy stressful for Daniel and I trying to work and care for him at the same time.

Here's a little peak into my day the other day.

Starting out:

Yeah we look awesome :)  Coffee and baby grins wake me up.

Then I bust out the work computer along with Jack's "work puter" as he calls it. This works for about 40.2 seconds until he decides he wants my "puter" instead.

This is where juice and Team Umi Zoomi saved my tush so I could get a little work done.

After we both get ready, I took him to the park to meet daddy so I could drop him off there to play a little while and go to cover an assignment for work.

After my assignment, I realized I forgot my stupid work "puter" and had to drive all the way home, 30 minutes each way, to pick it up. Fortunately Jack decided this was a great time to take a nap. So he slept on the way home and continued to sleep in the car while I worked from the front seat. (Car was in the cooled garage, it was fine.) He fortunately continued sleeping on the 30 minute drive back to the town where I work. (Nap win!)

I picked us up some lunch and brought him into the office with me.

My boss put on a little Curious George to keep him briefly occupied during lunch, and then it was off to another assignment.

This is where the Tula baby carrier stepped in to save my tush once again. Fortunately the assignment was quick and Jack was a patient sidekick reporter and allowed me to get stuff done.

This massive blend of sugar and caffeine helped keep me going too.

From here, I took him to his daddy's work where he colored and high-fived all of daddy's co-workers as I went to my third assignment for the day. (Unfortunately no photographic evidence exists of this, but I am sure it was adorable.)

Finally, it was time for me to pick him up from daddy's work, drive the 30 min back home. After Daniel got home an hour later, I finished typing the second story and I was officially done for the day.

Daddy's home!!

We then celebrated some serious TGIF in the backyard with some playtime.

I. Was. Exhausted.

Fortunately I don't have these kinds of crazy days too often, but I have had them enough that I greatly envy stay at home moms. Not saying that they have it any easier because I know they don't. I have full days at home too! I just think most of the time I'd prefer that level of difficult over the working mom level of difficult. But my life is what it is and at the end of the day I feel so lucky and blessed to do my most important job:

Being a mom <3
