Lately...

It's that time for another Lately post! I wanted to get better at blogging at least two to three times a week. And then I got sick and everything go put on hold.

So here's a little recap of the last week and weekend and an update on my kiddo who just keeps on growing. *throws up hands in acquiescence.*

First, I finished reading the fourth book in the Throne of Glass Series: Queen of Shadows. It was amaze-balls. And if you haven't read these books, you need to. They are right up there with Harry Potter for me. And if you know me, this is a BIG endorsement.

It was also my hubby's bday this weekend. He is 30, ya'll!! I can't even believe he is getting soooooo old ;) Poor guy! He's even got the gray hairs to prove it. hahaha.

It worked out nicely that my parents came to town this weekend because they were able to babysit for us on Sunday night while we went to see the Man from U.N.C.L.E. and went to dinner. It was really nice to get out and do adulty-type things.

We spent a good amount of time with my family this weekend and various parks picnicking and whatnot. The weather is still hot as hell here, so it was tough to stay outside long, but we got a good dose of Vitamin D and Jack had a blast.

Daniel caught Jack a lizard and he loved it! He even held it very gently in his own hand for about a minute (poor lizard was terrified into paralysis I'm sure), but it was really cute. Then he let him go "back to his mommy and daddy wizard (lizard)" lol. Jack loves those "widdle wizards."

The lizard experience. :)

We had a really fun time with my family and it was tough to see them leave. But we are headed there way in a couple of weeks anyway!

My mama. :)

Gramps :)

Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend too free from any labor! haha.

And before I forget, here are some updates my little (still little to me, dammit!) Jack Bean.

He's down a little bit in weight to 27 lbs (had finally reached 28 but then got sick and wouldn't hardly eat. We're working on fattening him back up. ;))

Still about 36 inches tall.

Wearing size 5 diaper (when he still wears a diaper about 65 percent of the time).

Wears size 6.5 shoes.

Talks about everything under the sun and can carry on a good conversation.

I'm starting to suspect he has somewhat of a photographic memory. We checked out a book from the library last week. Read it one time. And then next time we read it, he recited the whole thing on his own from memory. That's not the first time he's done something like that.

He has his letters and numbers memorized and can sight read some words.

Every time he makes an art project at daycare or draws a picture, he always says "I made it just for you, mommy!" Melts my heart every time.

He's getting better about the teeth brushing. Better at doing it himself and better at allowing us to help.

He likes to help with everything. He's folding clothes, sorting dishes, sweeping, dusting, etc. Some of it, he is actually really good at! It's been helpful. And speaking of chores, in case you missed it: This is the most recent Modern Moms Vlog on chores for kids and ways to help them stay motivated doing said chores!

Another thing we've been doing lately is "school time." Jack's buddy at the baby sitter started preschool this year so he's only there half the day. Sometimes Jack gets to see him get on the bus in the morning and kid is cray cray jelly about it. He wants a backpack. He calls me teacher. It's hysterical. So we have "school time" every day for about an hour. We read and draw and practice letters. It's fun, but I've been looking at some at-home preschool curriculums and tools. We already follow some Montessori styles of education and learning and have since birth. Any other ideas. I'm all about using technology too. Any of you readers use AbcMouse.com? I've heard good things. Any other recommendations?

And like I say every time I do an update on Jack, he's my buddy and I am so lucky to be his mama. He's definitely been more trying than ever, but the parenting methods I've employed so far have worked every single time. He's a sweet kiddo and I can't wait to see him grow and change even more. Parenthood is by far the best life journey I've ever gotten to go on.

Thanks for reading!
