Jack is 2!!

In case you missed my last post, my sweet little baby boy is 2!

I officially am going to have to change the name of my blog. Anyone out there with suggestions? I've been wanting to do a redesign for a while now anyway, so now would probably be the best time to do a name switch up since I technically no longer have a baby. (*Sob!!!*)

Jack is at a really funny stage. He can be the sweetest kiddo one minute and slapping me in the face the next.

Oh the hitting. Ugh.

He's full on toddler for sure.

Plus, he's too smart for his own good. This kid is always figuring out how he can get his own way. Tricky tricky, little toddler.

I wanted to do his last monthly update - 24 months, after this I'll probably just do quarterly updates or something ;)

So here we go.

Jack Bean Finn Sadlier - 24 months.

Weight: 27 lbs
Height: 35 inches
Diaper size: 5 (still using some cloth though)
Potty training status: Occasionally

So to update on the hitting/tantrum behavior, it's actually getting better. I read this article that talked a lot about why children hit and what to do. Since Jack didn't really understand the concept of a time out or time in, I took the approach where I basically say, "We don't hit in this house," or "I won't let you hit me."

And then I walk away. If he cries I just reinforce my understanding that I realize he's upset but he's not allowed to hit.

Sometimes Jack would hit me in a playful way, but geeze it hurt! So every time he hit me playfully I would say, "We don't hit, we tickle" and I'd start tickling him.

As of yesterday I felt like these efforts really started paying off.

He actually hit me on the arm once and said, "I'm sorry, mommy. I hit you."

And I'd respond, "You did hit me. It hurt, ouch! We don't hit in our family. We are gentle."

And then he gave me a kiss on my arm where he'd hit me. He did this again later in the evening when he purposefully bonked me in the side with his head.

I recognize he's still testing limits and boundaries, but it's getting better for sure. Now if I could just stop him from throwing a tantrum every time he doesn't get his own way, we'd be golden. :)

Fortunately he's still my happy, silly little smarty pants at least 75 percent of the time. He says the funniest stuff.

When he's fixing something or adjusts something to how he likes it, he'll say, "That's much better!"

He also loves asking me if I like something. Like, we'll be eating dinner and he'll say, "you like it, mommy?" or he shows me a toy, "you like (sounds like "wike" - lol) my toy?"

He always wants me to watch his "stunts" too. He loves running really fast around outside or in the house and he'll say: "Wook at me, mommy! I'm so fast! I can't stop!"

And I have no idea where he got this funny little tid bit - maybe TV, but I don't know what, but sometimes when I tell him thank you, he'll respond, "no, thank YOU." And if I say, "no, thank you" back he keeps it going. lol. I have no idea where he picked up that little rapport.

He's very polite. Each sneeze is met with a "bless you, mommy" and usually he follows up with an, "You okay, mommy?" and maybe a pat on the back. lol. And if I ask him if he's okay he tells me in the cutest voice, "Yeah. I awight"

I also have a tendency to say stuff like, "thank you, sir" when Jack helps me with something so now he does it make and says, "Thank you, my sirt." lol. Not sure why there is a T at the end of it, but it's super cute.

He still loves...

His mommy and daddy

His new "bicycle"

Flashlight.

A set of flashlights was one of his bday presents from us. He LOVES his flashlights - aka "fwaf wights"

Even though Jack is so verbal, I love that he still says some stuff "wrong." It makes me laugh so hard. Like, he calls oatmeal, "ohp nope." LOL. No idea how that translates.

Even though he's officially cutting his bottom two 2-year molars (which explains the horrific sleep lately) he's been behaving pretty well. Especially since he's down to paci use only in the car and during nap and bedtime. Thank goodness!! SO OVER THE PACI. I think we'll be done with it entirely not too much longer.

He's also eating a lot better. He's still a picky bird compared to other kids his age, but now he at least tells me when he's "way hungee" and "way firsty." He is trying new foods and eating healthy foods and snacks.

We're sort of potty practicing, but no hard core training yet. I don't want to push it on him before he's ready. But he's been really good about telling me when "Elmo" needs to use the big boy potty.

A good potty stare down. Lol

(Oh, if I tell Jack he's a big boy, he says, "No I widdle." lol.)

He can stay my baby as long as he wants!!

Hope ya'll are having a great day/week. Thanks again for reading and watching Jack grow and our family change - and for your support on this blog. Remember, send me new blog name ideas!!

xoxo
