Nineteen Months

Happy 19 months to my little smart, sweet, silly baby... err toddler! (He still lets me call him "baby" so I guess he's a little bit of both ;))

*For the record, I totally know I'm tredding annoying mom territory by continuing to track Jack's age in months, but after age 2, I'll probably kick that habit. I just feel like there is such a huge difference between one and two right now and it needs differentiated in reference.*

Jack Finn, you are the coolest kid I've ever met. (biased momma talking here, obvs.)

It's insane to think he's closer to two now than he is to one. Whenever people I know ask how old he is, they seem just as surprised as I am to learn how quickly time is flying, so I guess it's not just me.

Our days are currently filled with a lot of talking (you won't shut up and that's perfectly fine by me :)) painting, coloring and playing outside taking advantage of the early warm days of Fall.

Chalk galore!

We also finally went to the doc to get updated on Jack's stats, which are better than I hoped (weight wise) so that was encouraging.

My little skinny (picky eater to the max) guy is 24 lbs 10 oz, just short of triple his birth weight and only in the 24th percentile for weight, but the doc isn't concerned so I am trying not to be. He's still in the 80th percentile for height at 33.5 inches tall. The doc seemed thoroughly impressed by his language development (as am I) and his sweet disposition.

While Jack is sweet 85 percent of the time, he has his *ahem* moments. Yesterday I wouldn't let him play with my iPhone (which is shattered and broken, awesome). It was like devastation central at my house. Crying, wailing, crocodile tears. I was pretty much the worst mom ever, which was compounded by Jack telling me over and over "I crying" sob, sob, sob.

Poor little guy. Being told "no" sucks no matter how old you are, I think.

I get it, little man, I do.

But during his sweet and funny moments, this kid is too much fun. Hide and Go Seek is still his number one game of choice. He especially loves hiding with daddy while mommy counts. It's pretty hysterical trying to find him thought because I can constantly hear him telling daddy to "shhh."

And when it's his turn to count it goes something like this: "one, two, three, four, fifteen."

So yeah, at least we're up to five seconds now.

Oh, and he can count to 15 now. He usually just counts to 10, but he counted to 15 last Saturday. This is all unprompted too. I really hope this is him showing an early interest in math because we (we, meaning writers or anyone in an arts-related job) understand math majors get the good-paying jobs. #reality.

He loves water, loves to drink it and play in it. I love that he constantly asks for water to drink. I was worried because I'd given him juice and he was on that tangent for a while but usually he prefers water over juice. Although he does love soda.... ugh. That's a story for another day.

He's also discovered "candaaaay" lol

He's so sweet and caring. If someone gets hurt or is upset, he asks, "You okay?" in a concerned voice usually followed with a pat on the shoulder or something. It's really cute.

We are also watching my parent's dog Belle and he loves her. Whenever he sees her, like first thing in the morning he says, "Look! A Belle!" haha. Lately he's taken to going up to her, putting his head on her and says, "ahh love." It's pretty much adorable.

He always tries to take this toy from her, dog slobber and all.

He is great at communicating his needs to us. I often hear from him: "Help, carry me." Or "I hungee." He tells me when he's tired: "tired, go nigh night. Sweep. *yawn*" Although just because he tells me this last part doesn't mean he actually wants to go to bed. (Duh, mom).

He also says: "Uh, oh, It broke. Fix it." and hands me whatever he needs fixing. Usually his bubble blower. lol. He will tell me when he's gone to the potty (in his diaper of course) and when he's spilled something. "Mommy, I made a mess!" It doesn't change the fact that the mess was made but at least he's honest about it. Lol.

He's also pretty proud of himself when he does well and will clap his hands and say, "good job!" It's so funny.

He never sits down. We are always going and going. And chances are whatever adult he is around doesn't get to sit down either because he takes them by the finger and pulls and pleads until you go and play with him. It's a lot of fun, but does make it so the dishes don't get done nearly as often as they should.

When I start to get frustrated about the lack of a clean house or the ability to sit down and blog or pay my bills in peace. I think about this saying:

It's so very true.

His language skills continue to grow and impress me on a daily basis. He has words for everything and now likes to sing a lot. His fave song, "Itsy Bitsy Spider." That one is pretty fun and I desperately need to get some video of that. Too cute.

He loves his daddy and his Uncle "Russy" who is still here visiting. He continues to love his shows, Team Umizoomi and "Clue Clue" (aka Blue's Clues.)

Eating breakfast, watching cartoons :)

Wow, this is a long post. I guess Jack gets that whole talking a lot thing from me ;)

I'll wrap up with...

Overall we are just having a blast being parents and watching this little guy grow into such a smart, amazing little boy. Time could give us a break and slow down a little bit though. :)
