Eighteen Months

My TODDLER is a year and a half years old! He's a little ball of energy that just soaks up everything around him like a sponge. I know, I like to brag about my kid. But seriously, ya'll he's SMART.

My little smartie pants knows several hundred words and uses them in context correctly. He's obsessed with shapes and numbers and can correctly identify both. I don't push any of this on him, but he WANTS to learn. It's great!

His language skills are just taking OFF, which is so amazing to see. And hear. Speaking of hearing, every time he hears a new sound or something loud he perks up his ear and says: "sound?" in this curious voice. So cute.

He's saying a lot of things in full sentences now.

"There it is!"
"I do (insert whatever action he's doing)"
"I want (whatever he wants)"
"We go outside!"
"I am hiding!"

Today I got home from work and was busy trying to wrap up a few things for my boss on deadline so I was rushing, and meanwhile Jack is pulling on my leg and hand wanting to go outside. I try to explain to him I'm working and we have to wait, which just doesn't fly with the time frame of a toddler. He starts crying, which I do my best to appease while hurrying to finish and then he goes:

"Mommy, I cry!"

Broke. my. heart.

So I pick him up, do some cuddles and calm him down. Then he pulls away and says, "Nose is sticky" and I look to see tons of tear-induced boogers running down his face. LOL. Gross, but cute.

His newest thing is "be careful!" I guess I must say that a lot ;)

I know I was saying it here when he wouldn't get down from this picnic table on our recent camping trip for anything.

Aside from all of the smart stuff, he's just so much fun! He hops out of bed as soon as he opens his eyes and grabs my finger as it dangles off the bed. I'm wiped. Tired. Ready to sleep a little longer and hit snooze. Except my alarm clock has these adorable sweet blue eyes instead of a snooze button. So instead of getting in my last five minutes of zzzz's I'm pulling my butt out of bed and heading promptly outside at the request demand of my 1.5-year-old son.

Come on, mommy!!

Then we blow bubbles until I have to get ready for work, or if it's my day off, we blow bubbles. All. day. long. You might have seen the video I posted on Facebook. He's a pro.

I *try* and limit screen time in my house, but unfortunately, the TV still serves as a valuable tool when I need to get ready for work or do the dishes. As a result, Jack LOVES his shows.

Namely:

Blues Clues, aka, "Clue Clue." Where he greets Steve and Blue during the intro to the show. "Hi STEE! Blue? My puppy?"

It's pretty much the cutest thing ever to watch him mimic and mime this out. He holds out his hands like he's wondering where Blue went. A-freaking-dorable. I've been trying to get video of it, but when I get the camera out he won't do it. Of course. But if I can, I'll post it when I can :)

Watching TV. In his Jammies and diaper. And hat. Stylin'.

He also loves Team Umi Zoomi. Thanks, Umi Zoomi for teaching my son the difference between a circle and an oval.

Actually, funny story: One day we're coloring and there are a bunch of different shapes and I'm pointing to them and saying what they are. I point to the oval and I'm like, "Look, Jack! A circle!" because I figure differentiating between a circle and oval would be way too tough for a kid his age. And he points to it and says, "oval!" (except pronounced more like "ofal!) lol. I felt like such an idiot. I got it wrong on purpose thinking I was helping him and he totally schooled me, I tell ya!

He'll also settle for shows like Super Why (learning his ABCs) and this Amazon-original show called Creative Galaxy. He says Galaxy like "GYAXY" which is seriously the absolute cutest thing he will ever. I need to get it on video pronto. Although him saying "trianga" (triangle) or "hopper" (grass hopper" is pretty dang cute too. Seriously, hundreds of words, this kid.

He also loves going on walks, trips to the library, anything that will get us out of the house and out having fun.

Library!

He's also hit the 18-month sleep regression! Yay! (NOT) It's been rough nights at my house, but that's okay. We'll get back to sleeping through the night soon eventually.

I haven't had Jack in for a well check in a while so I'm not sure what his official stats are, but according to my scale/tape measure, he's a whopping 25 lbs and 32 inches long. Woot! He's finally gaining weight! He still wears a size four diaper (tiny bum) and is making his way into a size 6 shoe. He can still wear a few of his 12-18 month clothes, but is mostly in the 18-24 month stuff.

I attribute the weight gain to him finally starting to eat a little bit better. He's still crazy picky, but I think slowly we're getting there. He is still breast feeding so I know that helps.

He loves to giggle and chase the puppy.

He loves to take baths and wear hats and color.

Seriously. love this kid too much. Thanks for being such a cute kiddo, Jack Finn. Can't believe you're heading toward the second year of your life. SLOW DOWN, TIME!!

No more selfies, mom!!
