Luna Marina: Month Six

You'd think at some point I'd get used to time passing by so quickly, but it just isn't happening. I seriously cannot emotionally or mentally wrap my head around the fact that my sweet, happy, funny, smart baby girl is now half of a year old. HALF. A. YEAR, PEOPLE! WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?

It's so bittersweet. While I love watching her reach new milestones and get bigger, smarter, more capable and independent, my heart also breaks a little bit every time just because I know this is our last time getting to watch a little human this size accomplish all of these things for the first time.  I'm so fortunate to be in a position to get to be home to watch it happen and soak it in. Some days it's hard and I need a break, but most days I love getting to soak up the cuddles and enjoy all the small moments I have with these incredible kiddos.

So let's look at what six months looks like for this sassy little bebe.

Weight: 19 lbs (89 percentile)

Length: 26.8 inches (80 percentile)

Clothing:  6-9 months, size 3 diapers.

Teething: Two tiny little toofers on the bottom!

Skills: Sitting unassisted, standing assisted, scooting on her bum and tummy, jumping in her jumper, grabbing out-of-reach toys, chewing on allllll the things, gives kisses to mommy and daddy. Says, "hey" or "hi" in greeting (no joke) and said Daddy the other day. *wipes tears*

Sleep: Kinda sucks these days if I'm being honest. She's been nursing more at night. Can you say growth spurt? But her naps are longer (which was soooo nice for our travels over the weekend). She still mostly only naps if you're holding her, but will sometimes still crash in her swing or by being nursed down.

AND new development, she'll only sleep at night if you're right next to her. So much for trying to do anything after she goes to bed at night.

Eating: I just did a separate post about this here if you want to read more!

Luna Likes:
Mommy
Daddy
Brother.
The puppies.
Her jumper.
Playing with toys.
Chewing on stuff.
Being held.
Music.
Dance parties.
Peek a boo.
Reading.
Video chatting with grammy.
Bath time.

Luna Dislikes:
Getting dressed.
Long car rides.
Being ignored.
Being put down.
Not getting to eat with the fam.
When she can't figure out how to get her paci back in her mouth. :P

This age is so much fun. I love watching her figure things out and enjoy mastering new skills. I love seeing her little personality start to come out. She's so much like Jack it freaks me out. Literally, all of her milestones so far are almost week for week the same as what Jack did too. Crazy!

I mostly love watching her daddy and brother just totally dote on her and adore her each day. This girl has them totally wrapped around her fingers and doesn't even know it yet. (I'm sure she'll figure that out though. :P)

She's the perfect little caboose to our family and makes us feel so complete. We love you, Luna Marina Dawn. Always be you, baby girl. We are so lucky to have you in our family!

Newborn to six months. I cannot even believe it.

20 Month Update

I know I promised a next-day post on Tuesday, but this week seriously got away from me. Even still, here I am only five days after the fact, getting Jack's 20 month update here on the blog. And just an FYI, once he hits two I'll probably stop doing monthly updates. But for now, he still is developing so much month to month so I like being able to talk about what new stuff he's doing and learning.

Here's what 20 months looks like in the life of Jack Finn:

Weight: around 25 lbs - ish
Length: no idea, ha! Tall?

Other updates:

Jack got his first real full-on big boy hair cut this last month. And now, he looks a LOT less like my baby. I kinda like that he still uses a pacifier and wears diapers because it reminds me he's not a BIG, big boy yet.

But based on his vocabulary skills and other smarts, it's tough to tell. He's speaking in full-on sentences now. Even with his paci in his mouth, he gets the words out.

Just a few tidbits from the past couple weeks:

The other day I was getting dressed and I put on this shirt and Jack says:
"Nice shirt! Mommy is cute." bahaha

Then yesterday I am doing the dishes - obviously not paying well-enough attention to Jack, so he tells me, "Mommy, back here, right now! Pwease." hahah. At least he was polite in his demands.

He talks in third-person a lot calling him self Jack Bean, which has been my nickname for him since he was itty bitty. Yesterday my parents arrived for their visit and he was so excited to see them that when they were coming to the door he ran from the kitchen to the living room and told himself, "Go, Jack Bean!" It was super cute and funny.

His ability to form sentences is just astounding to me for his age. I know, this has seriously turned into a blog where I brag about my son's language skills, but I am a proud mama and I have to share.
The other day we were watching Dora the Explorer and he says, "Look! Dora is going to wake up the sleepy sun."

Not even kidding, he said that.

Counting... he used to be really into counting. I think I mentioned last time he was counting up to 15. But lately he really only wants to count to 4. I know he can go higher, but I don't push it. He's been like this with words too. In fact, one of his first words was Newton - the name of our dog. But now he calls him Tuny. lol, I have no idea why especially since he used to say it correctly. But that's fine. I just love watching him learn and progress at his own rate.

Other cutes:

Loves calling Grammy on the phone. "Hello (sounds like Hey-o), Grammy. It's Jack Bean." LOL.

Anytime he picks up a pen or something kind of long he points it at you and says, "presto!"

He's pretty bossy with the animals. Yesterday we were outside and he kept yelling at Newton: "tuny, back here! Come here!"

He LOVES building forts with daddy.

He dances to all the songs. Loves Itsy Bitsy Spider.

His favorite outside game is "bisbee" aka Frisbee.

He loves going on walks sans stroller. I blame Halloween.

He's obsessed with anything flying in the sky. "Copter! Flying in the sky!"

Watching "Pwanes" (planes.)

He is getting pretty good at jumping.

He likes to "help" with laundry. Lol

He also is very interactive with shows and games. He loves playing the "melmo game" on my iPad. I have two Sesame Street, Elmo games. They are so perfect for him.

Melmo time. Lol

He really only likes shows that are interactive - asks the kids to help find something or how much or something.

If the show's characters ask for help, Jack always says, "of course!" It's so funny.

He's getting sooo good at his colors. He's right probably about 65 percent of the time. He also knows pretty much all your basic, farm, domestic and jungle animals. lol. He still has his shapes memorized.

He's also started memorizing books and will recite the words as I am saying them. That really took me by surprise. It started with "Chick Chicka Boom Boom," but we also have this bug book he loves. The last line is "Do you see me?" and as I was reading it, he totally said it almost before I even read it. Crazy kid.

He's starting to show an interest in the potty, but I'm not pushing that. I got him his own, but just so he can use the next few months to get used to the idea. I'm really not looking forward to potty training. Oiy. Paci use is still high these days. No idea how I'm going to tackle that. The more I think about doing it, the more attached he seems.

He's sleeping about half the night in his bed and half the night in ours. It works for us for now. I'm terribly sad about it, but he's really not into babywearing anymore. I am so bummed because I loved it, but he's just getting to independent. Guess I'll pack them away for baby #2 for now. No, not pregnant. lol.

Anyway, I guess that is enough bragging on my kid for today. Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!!

P.S. I didn't promote my last post, but seriously if you ladies out there are as obsessed as I am about the dark lip colors this season, check out this post.

Six month update

Half a year? Half a year!? Half a YEAR!!??

My little man has already been in this world for six months. It's nuts. It's insane. I cannot believe how fast the time has gone.

Okay, now that I've dealt with the shock of time not slowing down for me like I was hoping it so kindly would, let's chat about what life is like as the new mama of a six month old baby.

It's awesome.
It's scary.
It's fun.
It's EXHAUSTING.

Let's get right down to it, shall we?

Baby Stats: (length and weight are my estimates because I failed at making his six month check up so that won't be happening for another few weeks.)

Age: 6 Months
Weight: 18.5 lbs
Length: 26 inches
Clothing size: a mix of 3-6 and 6-9 months. Mostly the latter.
Diaper size: 3
Rolling over: yes
Sleeping through the night: HA.
Teeth: yes, the bottom two.
Favorite toy: His Goodbye Moon bunny rattle
Favorite person: Still me (for the time being. Although Daddy is a close second and he love, love, LOVES his Auntie who watches him during the day.)
Favorite food: breast milk!! Although he does love the taste of peaches too. We are still verrrry slow going with solids in our house.
Solids: As previously mentioned, yes. So far he has had: Oatmeal cereal, pureed carrots, pureed apple sauce, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, peaches, celery, cucumber and carrot sticks (just to chew on while teething). I don't think we'll do regular solid meals for a while yet.
Sitting unsupported: check.
Standing: With assistance.
Crawling: No. Tummy time is HARD, yo. Lots of rocking forward though while he is in a sitting position.

He drools constantly. (Thanks teething)

But it's all worth it so he can show off his two new pearly whites!

As I mentioned above, sleeping is still rough. Jack still does not do well during the night once we hit about 4 a.m. He has #2 bathroom issues and for some reason feels the need to go right then. Every single night. It's frustrating for all of us, including him. The more research I do on crying it out, the more I don't want to do it. Sure, sleep is like a magical unicorn - elusive and beautiful - and something it feels I will never see again, but something just doesn't feel right to me about leaving Jack to cry when something could be wrong. I am all for parents making their own choices, however. No mama-shaming here. I just don't think CIO is for us. I tend to follow his lead in all sleep areas, including naps.

Many of his naps look like this:

Sure, we may not be doing it "right" but in the meantime, I'm getting lots of baby cuddles. :)

Stats on me!

At six months post partum I'm pretty much feeling back to normal. I am still breast feeding so obviously I don't have my entire body back to myself but I feel a semblance of normal - aside from that whole no-sleep, walking-zombie feeling I have most days. I am also ten pounds less than what I was when I got pregnant. Woot!

We are all also currently sick. Jack has been showing symptoms off and on (slight fever, cough, congestion) for the past couple weeks. As have I. Now Jack's aunt/sitter also has a cold. Bleh. Daniel had it for like a day and that was it. Lucky man with his immune system of steel!

It's unbelievable how much our live's have changed since Jack was born. As tough and as tiring being a mama can be, I am really loving it.

Now, I just really need time to sloowwww down for a minute, mmmmk?
Xoxo,

Sam
