I'm Old (er) and Jack is "Tiny"

Hey everyone!

First, thanks a bunch for all the sweet gifts, Facebook messages, phone calls, texts, emails and ESP communication sharing happy birthday wishes yesterday. I feel so loved!

It was probably the most laid back birthday I've ever had. I had to work half day (BUT! Got free lunch from my boss. Drunken Noodles, FTW!) and the second half I spent hanging out eating red velvet cake with Mr. Jack Bean blowing bubbles and playing games outside.

Hubs got me a few little gifts, a cake and ice cream, an amazingly sweet card from him and Jack AND a salad from my fave TexMex place. It was delish. I am still full from all the yummy treats and food from yesterday.

Last year when I turned 27, I felt old. For some reason it was a bigger transition. I had finally hit my "late" 20s. This year - turning 28 was just another year. Closer to 30. But that's okay. I'm not afraid. Although those crows feet threatening to sneak up on me can officially take a hike. I'M NOT READY YET, K?!

But srsly, enough about me getting old aging gracefully, let's do my regular monthly update on my little cutie boy!

He's 28 months now for those still counting. Hey! 28 & 28. I just noticed...weird!

A day at the doc!

Conveniently we just went in for his 2-year well-check, so I know officially how much he weighs and his height.

He's 28 lbs (whoa...another 28, what is happening??) and is 36 inches. He's in the 30th percentile for weight and 60th percentile for height. So still on the tall and skinny side continuing to take after his father's side.

He continues to astound me with his smarts every day.
  • Counts to 50 unassisted. (usually while I am driving home from work every day. It's only a little bit annoying. lol)
  • Loves back seat driving. ("Red light means stop!")
  • Is starting to learn how to add numbers. (I DONT force this okay, I catch him "adding" all on his own!)
  • Is memorizing his fave books. (He knows "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" better than I do!)
  • Can sight read some words.
  • Can recognize all of his numbers 1-10 and almost all of his letters.

He's also super sweet. He knows when he does something that upsets me. (ie. spitting in the house. Oy, his obsession with spitting!!) I've made the rule that he can spit all day long in the grass outside. I just don't want it on my mirrors and tile. He is really good about apologizing unprompted (I don't like to force insincere apologies.)

And every time I get hurt or he sees that I have a cut or bruise, he gives me a kiss better. And every time he is hurt, he asks for a kiss and then says: "Ah that's better. Thanks, mommy."

He's still really polite. Says Please, Thank you, Excuse me, to everyone all of the time. "Scuze me, puppies!"

The video game attachment has begun. To get in some quality dad time, I've loosened the reigns a little bit on video game time (WITH) some very heavy limits in place. But 20 minutes of "helping" daddy play a video game is fun for both of them and really only happens a couple times a week.

"Helping" me at the Post Office.

Speaking of helping, he wants to help with everything from cooking to cleaning to caring for the puppies, which despite it actually creating more work for me, I really try to encourage and make his assistance "Jack Friendly," which means he can help and I can still get shiz done. Win, Win!

He's about 60 percent potty trained. He will ask to go and does often, but he doesn't want to wear big boy underwear.

The other day I told him: "Jack, big boys wear big boy underwear just like daddy!" And he in turn says: "I not a big boy! I still a tiny Jack Bean." Touche, kid.

He's become very interested in babies lately. He's been around his new cousin Kinley a little more often and is around his babysitter's 10 month old too. Plus, he hasn't met her yet, but we've talked a lot about his new baby cousin Lilly that was just born on July 5. He's excited to meet her now that she's finally "out of her mommy's tummy."

He has his own "baby" a cabbage patch doll baby I had as a kid. He swaddles him up and packs him around. It's super cute. And he loves seeing and talking to babies at the park. He'll get down right in front of them and say: "Hi wittle baby! You so cute!"

It's really funny to watch.

He's been paci free for about a week and a half now. Whew! I thought we'd never get rid of that thing. Although he still asks for it daily. Now it's a little easier to distract him when he's feeling the paci urge though.

Tantrum wise, things are going really well. I don't want to jinx it (and I probably am) but he doesn't really throw tantrums at all. He's so good natured. His listening skills need a little improvement, but hey, he's two.

So happy :)

Unfortunately he has to go in for an oral surgery next week for some dental work and I am pretty much freaking about that. (More on that later!)

Overall, we are pretty much the luckiest parents around. I am so grateful to be a momma to this kid. I can't even stress how fortunate I feel to get to know this sweet soul, which is why I guess I just love continuing to share his life with all of you.  :)
